[The 'Gear had been an interesting thing to figure out - an amusing little toy, really; while calling it a puzzle would have been giving it entirely too much credit, Descole had enjoyed himself with it for a while. The afternoon had been spent watching the others post to the network; apparently he wasn't the only one that had randomly found himself stuck here. Really, there had been at least one other that day posting to say that they had found themselves in the same predicament.

How odd.

Tonight, his own feed comes alive, focusing in on a dimly-lit room and just enough of a figure to indicate that there's a person sitting in that chair over there, though he's leaning back and the camera is situated at an angle in relation to the person, keeping his face out of view of the camera. There doesn't appear to be too many distinguishing points about the individual, as he appears to be draped in a long black cape of some sort, though toward the upper corner of the frame, there's an obvious fluffy shock of white among all the dark folds of fabric, and the edges of his sleeves are ruffled and white, pale against what's visible of his hands where they're folded against what appears to be a desk or table of some sort.

All part of the act, of course; keep the audience guessing.

When he speaks, his voice is cordial, but almost stiffly formal - not quite rehearsed, but he's clearly been thinking about what to say for some time.]

Assuming this message manages to reach anyone, if someone would do me the favor of actually obliging me and letting me know where I am, that would be appreciated - there was a red-haired woman in here earlier claiming that she was doing exactly that, but unfortunately, she didn't say anything terribly useful.

[He leans forward a bit, the slightest hint of a smirk edging into the frame above that white boa.]

And if anyone just happens to know where my swords have gone...really, if you know what's in your best interests you'll return them as quickly as possible. I can't say there won't be any hard feelings, but I'm sure we can work something out.

I couldn't say where your weapons would be, though I can understand your frustration. Granted, it seems as though proper weapons aren't exactly legal here-a bit odd, given that we're entrusted with potentially dangerous animals right away.

A red-haired woman, you say...? [A bit of a smirk.]

Welcome to Johto. There is much I could say about this place, but discovering its many wonders is definitely more interesting, not to mention more intellectually challenging, than simply hearing of them from someone else. Much of what you will see and experience here is beyond your wildest imagination, thus confirming, once again, that,

[His voice changes then, becoming slower, more solemn, even deeper than usual.]

"There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy".

[His voice changes back.]

Ah, and I believe that your swords have joined my gun and clawed gauntlets.

[He takes in that proclamation in silence, though his hands shift a bit - propped up as he leans forward against the table, resting his chin idly across linked fingers.

He's still smirking a good amount himself.]

[Well, that's certainly something, isn't it.]

A very valid point indeed, my good man - am I to assume you're in a similar situation, then?

[... Gorthan blinks in surprise.

... It's the first time in the Branch Chief's goddamn life anyone replies to one of his Shakespeare quotes with another Shakespeare quote.

Finally. His features relax into a genuine smile. Maybe he's just getting his hopes up again - it's something that tends to happen quite a lot since he started living stably on this version of Earth - but... This could be the start of something beautiful.]

You could say I have a bit of a...fascination with the arts in general; at least some familiarity with the Bard's work is almost mandatory.

[ Well, isn't this quite the surprise. The last time Layton has seen Descole in Johto has been more than a year ago, and even longer back home. To say the least, he's not very pleased to see him here. ]

I wouldn't word it that way, myself - really, one might say it hasn't been nearly long enough.

[ He has been suspecting this. This is exactly how Descole has previously answered him. ]

[No, he isn't. It's just that he's suddenly very excited, though he isn't quite showing it. Even if he won't admit, he is still on his search for a kindred spirit. And this? This is not so much at all, but it's promising so far.]

[Well, that's a nice way to inject some tension into his posture, Layton, his hands visibly tightening where they're folded on the desk; he doesn't seem like he'll be relaxing anytime soon, either, despite the fact that there's a good long pause before he answers.

His first urge is to get snappish; he doesn't need assistance from you. He doesn't want assistance from you.

...damn it, he's going to require assistance from you, isn't he. Let him get a stranglehold on his pride first, this is difficult and no one understands.]

I hardly see why you need me to tell you that.

[...if you're looking for a kindred spirit here, then yes, you...oh, you'll see eventually.

However! For now you can have a flick of his hand at the camera for your effort, the gesture flourished and flamboyant.]

Jean Descole; a patron of the arts, surely, but at my core I've dedicated myself to the noble pursuit of scientific study.

It seems we have a fair amount in common, Gorthan.

[You can have another light laugh and flippant handwave for your effort, Archer.]

Well, I'm not going to date myself by giving you an exact number, but it's been many, many years now.

[He nods.]

Last name is more than sufficient, my good man - and while there may be no need for such things, if we only adhere to what we need and do nothing regarding what we want, then that's existing without living. Rather boring, if you ask me!

But if you insist.

[He actually has no qualms about adjusting the view of the camera; there's going to be a lot of white obscuring the camera while he does so, given the frills at his wrists, but once he pulls back again the focus has been shifted to a bit more of a natural angle.

...it's probably going to be immediately obvious why he has no issue with this whatsoever, given that he still has the fitted white mask obscuring his eyes, as well as that ~~oh god shut up it's completely stylish okay~~ rather...unusual hat on, ensuring that the natural color of his hair can't be seen.]

[...You know, it's actually difficult to tell considering you're concealing half your face there. Oh well, this makes the whole eye-contact issue less of a problem, right?]

Well, if these can be used as weapons, I'm afraid you'll have a difficult time here. This place seems intent on ensuring the safety of its inhabitants; it's against the law to have any sort of weapon here in Johto.

[Outside of the murderbeasts, that is.]

And yet, again, they give us large creatures dedicated to doing our bidding and tell us to train them to fight.

It seems that someone didn't think this place through very well at all.

[Descole's remark perplexes Gorthan initially, but he ultimately nods in agreement.

... And once he sees what Descole's "face" looks like... that gets a laugh from him. A hearty, genuine one, the sound rather loud. It stops soon, however.]

Concealing your own identity, and concealing that concealment in turn. I see.

Please realize that such a thing does not speak especially well of your honesty, Descole.

[That's amused him, actually.]

And I don't recall asking you to believe anything I say - just suspend disbelief as far as you're willing.

Taking pride in falsity! I used to do the same. Not anymore, however.

[At which he keeps his eyes closed for a moment. It looks like he's wearing black makeup over his eyelids.]

But no matter. I trust you were given a creature with which to begin the journey that is expected of you...?

Of course not. Though to be fair, most people would never think to harm people with these creatures.

[Bunch of wimps.]

That's not particularly important now, though. I assume you'll be attempting to return home, then?
