[It's quite frankly surprising how many questions and things regarding relationships tend to come out once there's no accountability attached; Descole's been watching this go down for the last two days, and kind of hating himself for the fact that he isn't immune to it.

He hates text, normally; he doesn't like the lack of tone involved, and he doesn't like being unable to read faces or gestures, either. However, in the spirit of anonymity...]

Since no one can tell who we are over this thing for the time being anyway, I suppose I'll bite. Forgive me for using this as a space for venting my own personal issues, but we all seem to like discussing feelings here, anyway.

How does one tell the difference between someone being interested, in the romantic sense, and someone being interested in you platonically?

And just to head a few sarcastic individuals off - yes, I know that I sound like I've lived under a rock since puberty hit. There's a reason this is being done now.

I don't think anyone likes all aspects of anyone else's life; there are bound to be some things that just aren't compatible. Aren't there? Otherwise the result would be a bit disturbing, I'd think.

What happens to my...? What do you mean? I'm not exactly the sort to go into fits of palpitations when I see someone I'm interested in.

Surely you must be feeling something different about her, or else this wouldn't be so important! Do you think she's prettier than anyone else in Johto and Kanto? Does your day seem brighter when all she's done is talk and smile?

That's more than a bit of an exaggeration on both counts.

So you can see her reaction! If that makes her happy to hear, then she definitely has eyes for you!

Then you can start planning on how to win her heart!

But if she isn't interested, she isn't interested. You can't force someone to be interested in you.

Of course not, but you can't give up so easily either. If you want someone, you should try and make the effort. As much as I love a good 'love at first sight' story, it takes time and thought to woo your sweetheart. If she's worth it.

Ah...it isn't quite that simple, in this case. We have a bit of a bad history, where we're from.

...think of it like this. If "love at first sight" doesn't always work, then there's a period of time where one person isn't interested. From a logical standpoint, then, there has to be a transition period during which that person becomes interested, but isn't certain that it's love or just a fleeting thing, right?

I don't see why that can't be true for both parties involved.

I suppose that's true. But then they might need help realizing what they're feeling! Have you or her ever fallen in love before? Or have any friends who have?

I've never been in love, though I don't know about her. I've suspected the possibility that she's interested in someone who's very bad for her for a while now, but I don't know how true that is.
